I can “relate”… man!

Our ISBU homes are designed for relationships and I’m not talking about just YOURS, either.

I want your home to look good, but more importantly… I want it to FEEL good. Year-round.

Homes are about relationships. They are too! Just stop that!

A properly designed home will work WITH the environment and the elements,  24/7. So, our ISBU homes are designed to maintain an intimate relationship with the most powerful natural resource on the planet… the sun.

Yes, I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. You HAVE the ability to harness the sun and use it to your advantage. We ALL do. Solar power rules!

Increasing thermal mass in your home (by using a polished concrete floor, for example) turns your house into a giant heat storage cell. Can you say “radiant heat”?  A thermal mass floor has the capability to store the equivalent of 20kWhs of electrical energy – I’m talking about 20 oil-fired heaters burning non-stop.

And what do you do when it’s too hot? You use passive ventilation that occurs naturally through the open, airy, tall central clerestory roof system.

Plus that big open ceiling will make the space boom!  Forget about claustrophobia! And it also means that your home is designed to conserve like crazy. A properly designed home will require less heating and far less cooling.

We’re talking about creating stables temperatures year-round as long as the sun is shining!

You won’t sacrifice style and you will certainly NOT sacrifice performance. Symbiosis is a wonderful thing! 🙂

It’s a three step process.

Design – Detail – Build

Hi! Thanks for the great site and information. We’d like to attach a 2-story addition to the side of our small ranch house consisting of living space and garage on the 1st floor, and a master suite, office and deck on the 2nd floor. What’s it like to expand an existing structure using ISBU’s?

    Hi Katrina,

Truth be told, using ISBUs as “addition modules” to existing structures is an area where ISBUs can really shine.

Usually, you’ll “pre-fabricate” the boxes offsite, truck them in and then install them into the “waiting rough opening”.

Seriously, once you construct the “connection point” it’s just “pop and drop”.

Your neighbors will love the fact that you don’t have strange construction trucks lining the streets for weeks or even months, the impact on your family is lessened to a great degree, and your life stays “normal” far longer.

It’s truly “low-impact” addition and remodeling time!

We’d be happy to work with you on your project!
